After roughing it just a little bit in Lesotho we went back into South Africa. It’s amazing how the scenery immediately changes although the areas are right next to each other. I guess it’s like going from The Netherlands into Belgium. Although you don’t expect it to be different you immediately notice that it’s not the same..
Clarens is a cute little village that unfortunately is already getting a lot of visitors, I guess I’m not the only one that enjoys the vibe… It had been a while since I had been there and boy, is there a lot of development going on! So perhaps you should try to go before it really becomes a popular tourist destination. How to describe Clarens? Hm, beautifully situated, surrounded by mountains, lot of art galleries, lovely restaurants with fresh farm style food, worthwhile at least a lunch stop!
Continuing from Clarens we drove through the Golden Gate National Park. This is one of the most stunning routes in South Africa and not over-run by tourists, yet. Drive past the impressive Sterkfonteindam and then end up in the absolutely wonderful Klein Switzerland Hotel. I normally don’t really like the bigger hotels but this is a very pleasant exception with EXCELLENT service, very spacious and beautiful rooms, super friendly staff and my Dad and I had one of the best fillets of beef EVER! WHAT a treat!! This is a great place to take the ENTIRE family because you can be sure everyone has a good time. There are lots of activities for kids or you can just relax on your deck and enjoy the stunning Drakensberg views. Highly recommended!!
