A few weeks ago I went to Hermanus with a couple of other moms. Before planning the get-away we didn’t know each very well but we had in common that we all have adopted our children and that we’re all single moms. The weekend turned out lovely. We saw whales, had a lot to chat about and the kids all got along very well.
As you know, I’m quite big on good food and love lovely lunch spots on wine estates. Hemel & Aarde Valley is one of my favorite areas, not yet discovered by the masses and you still need to trek a bit before you get where you want to be. And then it is like ‘heaven’. I suggested we would go for Sunday lunch at Creation Wines before heading back to Cape Town and I was very pleased that the other moms loved the idea too. Creation Wines has a stunning location, of course very good wines and the restaurant is wonderful too. I had not made any bookings so we took a bit of a chance by driving there all the way but we were lucky. We arrived at 1pm and had a table until 3pm. And we were even more fortunate to find out that Creation Wines has a children play room. WOW!! We clearly had arrived in ‘heaven’. Until then I was only aware of Delicatessen at Tokara which has a beautiful playground for kids. Creation Wines is perfect for the-not-so-sunny-days because the playroom is indoors. And we were seated right next to it.
I was so happy, I totally forgot my child and only took pictures of the delicious food I was savoring with my new found mommy/foodie friends. Life is beautiful!!
We’re planning on organizing many more weekends away so if you’re interested and would love to join, drop me an email at email@example.com.
I would love to know about more childfriendly places (other than Spur..) to experience, write and share about!
