Last week Thursday I was invited by the lovely Sam Chatham from Somewhere SOUTH – hospitality solutions to visit and have lunch at Cascade Manor in Paarl, situated less than 1 hour from Cape Town in the magnificent Cape Wine lands. Once, long time ago, I had made a booking there so it would be nice to check out the property again. Of course we had hoped for a sunny day but the weather Gods were a little bit tough on us. Nevertheless, we made it through the dirt road safe and sound and arrived at this gorgeous Manor, really a Grande Dame.
We were warmly welcomed by Maike, the owner, with bubbly and an Olive Oil Tasting. Did you know that South African Olive Oils have won awards all over the world and are often WAY better than the Italian ones? I certainly didn’t. I love bread dipped in olive oil so I happily tucked in..Yummie!! Just what we needed on a cold and rainy day: a fire, bubbly and delicious bread.
Maika showed us around. The pool area is magnificent with a big lawn and great views of the mountain range that almost surrounds Cascade Country Manor. The establishment is kids friendly as well although one has to be careful with the pool of course. We loved the view of the beautiful waterfall, situated at the estate. If the weather would have been better, we could have enjoyed lunch at this great spot.
Once a Royal Homestead, Cascade Manor is a now boutique hotel with Spa facilities set in 23 ha of olive orchards and vineyards. The estate has 15 rooms: 10 classic, 3 deluxe, 1 family and 1 suite. There’s a beautiful outside terrace for weddings up to 60 people. I could get married here, yeah I sure could. Just still need to find the right hubbie..You can go for a hike in the mountain, watch a movie on a big screen, enjoy the infra red sauna or go on a local wine tour of the area.
For now I would like to come back with Rosie and let her RUN on the lawn!!
We were treated with delicious canapes of HUGE prawns, a delicious main course of either steak or Salmon Trout and one of the best Tiramisu’s I’ve ever tasted (although I make a pretty good one myself if I may say so…)
Thank you very much to Sam for organizing the day and thank you very much for Maika and Holger and their staff for welcoming and hosting us at their beautiful home!
