Breakfast at the Oysterbox hotel, Umhlanga Rocks

This morning I was invited to have breakfast at the Oysterbox Hotel with delegates from South African Tourism.  The Oysterbox hotel is something different. WoW! Built in 1947 in Umhlanga Rocks on the Dolphin Coast and refurbished into it’s old style and charm in 2009, it was amazing to learn about the history of this place. Apparently the current owner proposed to his wife-to-be back in the days in this hotel and then promised to buy the hotel for her one day and so he did… There’s a 24 seater cinema, there are incredibly beautiful pieces of art all commissined to local artists and in the library there’s a collection of historical clocks. We had breakast at the Lighthouse Bar which during the week apparently is one of the most vibrant bars in the area. We were not so fortunate with the weather, rain was pouring down so I couldn’t take pictures.
On Saturday nights there’s a dinner-dance in the restaurant with a 6 man orchestra which sounded like fun as well. The rooms were a bit small we thought..
