Full moon cycling in Cape Town

Can you believe it?? I couldn’t when I got a text message from my friend on Thursday night: Wanna go cycling at 9pm this evening? Sure, I said… thinking his was a joke but at the same time very excited to cycle again. I’ve been looking at my bicycle for the last 2 years. Have hardly touched it. The stickers from the Cape Argus are still on there but somehow I haven’t cycled anymore. I quickly got back home because I needed to find all my gear, check and pump tires and in general just check if the bike was still working. It took a while and with the help of a friendly neighbor we were down at the stadium at around 9h15pm.  I couldn’t believe my eyes when there were about 200 cyclists. Wow!! This could be real fun! At 9h25 we took of and this is the route we followed: Greenpoint Stadium, V&A Waterfront, Greenpoint Promenade, Main Road back down to the CBD, The Fan walk and then onto Long Street. We took over Long Street. It was SO much fun. Everyone in the bars came out to look what the heck was going on outside, cars had to stop and we were all screaming, making a noise. All for the support of safe cycling in Cape Town. We finished at @union where all the bicycles really made me feel as if I was in Holland. Check the web site here for the next one on 6 May 2012. There’s also a facebook site and twitter handle #moonlightmass to check updates and more pictures. Couldn’t take more pics, I was cycling….

Cycling in Cape Town in the full moon!

Ah, @union looked like a train station in Holland with all the bicycles!
