Porcupine Hills Guest Farm – between Franschhoek and Hermanus
Weddings in South Africa are always a great excuse to go away for the weekend. They never happen next door and you don’t want to end up driving in the middle of the night.
A dear friend of mind go married last weekend in the Elgin / Grabouw area here in the Western Cape so on Saturday morning we headed out in that directions. It’s about 1.5 hours drive from Cape Town, mostly easy drive on the N2.
Porcupine Hills Guest Farm is situated quite far away from the main road but it’s worth the drive. It’s beautifully situated in the Diepklowe Private Nature Reserve and offers various types of accommodation. There’s a farmhouse, the cottage and all the way in the back there are 3 chalets which is where we stayed. Forget about cell phone reception and enjoy the plunge pool in Summer. The chalets are very well appointed and it’s a great get away for a long weekend. Although you can perfectly do self catering, Murray, the owner is a fantastic cook and is happy to prepare breakfast at the farmhouse. Our stay was a bit too short because we had to go the wedding in the afternoon but we will definitely be back. The pictures on the web site don’t really show how pretty the farm is and I forgot to take my camera so you’ll have to check it out for yourself. Porcupine Hills is also part of the Green Mountain Trail for relaxed Slackpacking with great food and wine, check out www.greenmountaintrail.co.za
