Short recap of the Getaway Travel Bloggers Conference

Travelbug and inspiration are the words that come to mind after attending the Getaway Travel Bloggers Conference. After last Saturday I realize I’m a little bit too comfortable on my ‘little island’ which consists of working from my home office, creating travel itineraries and writing about my personal adventures. What a difference it makes when likeminded people get together and share their passion, knowledge, experiences and laughter. Add a whole lot of wine to it and there you have it: The Getaway Travel Bloggers Conference.

The event was held at the funky Upper Eastside Hotel in Woodstock. We were welcomed with lovely pastries, tea, coffee and of course the friendly team of Getaway, Cape Town Tourism and the hotel.

The hotel markets itself as the only business boutique hotel in Cape Town at affordable prices. I’d been to other events (see other blogs) and they were always well organized. The food served was good and in general it is just an awesome place to have your meetings or your work functions.

160 bloggers, travel aficionados, professionals, hobbyists all united at this venue for a day of inspiration and learning. We were addressed and thoroughly entertained by 11 speakers, local as well as 4 international ones.

Bloggers are all about sharing knowledge and content. Fellow bloggers are either considered friends or at least colleagues. It is very different from the traditional travel trade of which I’ve always been a member. Hardly anyone shares knowledge or experiences, scared to give the competitor valuable information which might take them ahead of you.

I just loved the way the speakers promoted working together, sharing and creating teams. I’m looking forward to immerse myself in all the tools, sites, profiles & connections that were shared and start a journey of building something that will create value and ambassadors for this beautiful part of the world and beyond.

Let’s share the passion for travel!
